Diet update and general audience poll:

As of today I have lost a total of five pounds. I may have lost a little more than that, but five is all I am claiming as of right now. The week wasn't too hard. I remember why I like eating healthy and generally being better to myself: I am in a good mood and I feel physically better. I hope everyone else is accomplishing this year's goal and this get's me to another thing I wanted to discuss.

I am looking to spice up my life and try new things. I like going to see movies, but I would like to get out of my apartment to do something other than going to work, a movie, or dinner. Any suggestions? Maybe a hike would be in order? I am not too outdoor-sy. I find bugs repulsive and nature in general to be of a questionable value. I used to enjoy camping when I was a kid, but I am just not that interested since I became a snake and other vicious creatures fearing adult. What other activities do you engage in aside from the usual work (or school), dinner, movie routine? I am determined to start 2006 out fresh and this takes dedication and imagination.

I find that shopping is very therapeutic. Jamie said that he knows you don't like art museums, but the Birmingham Museum of Art is free and not that far away. You should read a little background about artist, perhaps the Birmingham Museum of Art Library. That would be a nice chance to say, "oh I love your library and I have a Masters in Library Science". I agree, plus it would be great loads of fun. You should join junior patrons because all they do is "get hammered" as Jamie says. He adds "within a repsectable limit" (or whatever). There are lots of singles who pretend to like art, but are really there only for the free booze and chance of getting some action... but, in a classy setting. It is like a $50 membership to fun. We were junior patrons when we lived there.

Anyway, I have to go. Think abou it.

Grab a kid and go to the Mcwayne Center. I love that place. I even go without kids. You could ice skate in Pelham. I've never been there, just heard about it.

Haha. When I read your comment about "grabbing a kid" I thought you were suggesting kidnapping. Good idea about the McWane Center, though. As for belly dancing...um, no. I have more respect for the human race than to expose such a sight to the general public....

I think Yoga for fitness and mental well-being. I would suggest a cooking class from the cullinary institution if you are interested in that. I would also challenge you to take a look at your spiritual side. If you are religious at all maybe this year might be a good one to get back to being your spiritual best.

Good luck with a FRESH 2006! I'm excited for you! :)

Try to find out where author signings will be held!!! If you meet anyone interesting, let me know.

I agree with the above commentator and like yoga; but, the last time I went to an actual class, there was a problem with people making bodily noises involuntarily...it totally broke my concentration. But I do like the yoga videos! :)

Photography is a good alternative to hiking. Find a non-plant-filled place in which you feel safe walking around and spend the afternoon taking pictures of things that look like they may be interesting.

That's a great idea, Matt! I love looking at pictures I've taken.

I appreciate all of the suggestions. I promise to give each one serious thought and I will do several of them.
