The "First Waver" Theory
I alluded to the "first waver" theory in an earlier post and I have decided to share with you all this important information. I am a first waver. Let me give you an example: in all disaster movies (Armageddon, Deep Impact, War of the Worlds, The Day After Tomorrow) there are the first waves of people that meet a variety of unfortunate ends. The first meteor strike that hints that a more serious problem is coming would take me out. Aliens attack? Yep, I'm a goner. The world freezes? You guessed it, not gonna make it past the first few hours. Let me be clear: I am not a survivor. I don't really want to be. I don't camp, I find life without cable, air conditioning, and beer to be depressing and almost impossible to fathom. The idea of being part of a select few who eked out a living to survive the disaster and are now forced to rebuild civilization does not appeal to me. Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Dakota Fanning, and Dennis Quaid can have it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not as morbid as this post indicates. I don't really think the world is going to be attacked by aliens disguised as lightning or destroyed by a gargantuan meteorite headed straight for New York, but just in case I've accepted my fate. So what are you: Survivor or First Waver?

first waver...but i do like to camp...just not during a blizzard, alien attack, meteor shower, etc...
sorry, that first comment was from me.
I am with you Katie... life without a/c, t.v. or beer would be unbearable. The thought of a "simple" life sucks! Let's not think about it...
You guys have never tried a simple life! How do you know it's bad? And there is plenty of homemade alcohol in a simple life... how do you think moonshine got its start?
This is my first time contributing to the page and I've enjoyed reading the comments. Hello Katie, Peyton, Jenny. It is a little freaky coming from having relatively no communication (when no one knows where I am) to posting my name and responses on a webpage for anyone to see.
Oh, I'm going to place myself right at the edge of the survivor group. Anyone want to learn how to make yogurt or cheese from scratch?
no. I prefer store bought. I sincerely appreciate the offer though. You can be my survivor friend...
Oh, I'm a survivor. I don't have any cogent rationale to explain it, but I know I would fight to the end. Not to get all philosophical, but I wonder how anyone (including me) can really know how they would react in that type of situation. . .wouldn't instinct take over at some point? I digress, if it came down to it, I would want to stick around just to spite those aliens.
I'm kind of with Jamie.... I don't know which I would be, but I think the survival instinct would kick in. Even if things got really bad, I don't know that I would be able to mercifully end my own life or anything like that... I'd probably want to hang on a little longer just to see if things got better. So call me a wavering survivor.
I like to think I'd be a Survivor, but I'd probably end up wishing I was a First Waver the minute indoor plumbing and toilet paper disappeared.
girls, my indoor plumbing (and occassionally TP) has disappeared...not all the time, but half the time I have to use port-o-potties and I now keep little wipes and/or TP with me in case I have to go somewhere that isn't, let's say accomodating. wish you were here, kidding, wouldn't wish this on anyone. :P
At the moment, I'm a survivor. I may not be the last one standing, but I won't be the first to go either.
