housewives fever

I am ridiculously addicted to almost all of Bravo TV's Real Housewives series - the exception would be the ladies of D.C. - BORING! Regardless, I like watching their ridiculous antics, spending habits, and what they consider 'normal.' Currently, the featured towns are Beverly Hills and Atlanta. One of the more annoying women is Camille Grammer, soon to be ex of Frasier. I watched the episode where her friend, Allison DuBois - inspiration for the show Medium - was on. I have watched Medium since it started over five years ago. Good stuff, kind of spooky, but also a good mystery each week. On the Real Housewives episode she was a total bitch. She turns out to be a rude, electric cigarette smoking nightmare. I was sad that the last episode of Medium is on this month, but seeing how Ms. DuBois is a effing nut job quack, I think I'll get over the loss.

Two posts within one week? No!

Back from the wedding. Things were interesting to say the least. A little drama (alright, a lot!) but what weddings don't have that? I only have one wedding left for the next several months. That one is in D.C. and I'll get to see several friends! Yay!

Tonight's post is regarding a show I was sucked into watching tonight..."I Didn't Know I was Pregnant!" on the beloved (and always classy - Toddlers and Tiaras anyone?) TLC. Each episode is an hour of extreme idiocy. Most of the lovely young ladies I saw were from the South - Cheers to us! Generally while they were unknowingly hatching a baby they were off smoking and drinking and doing God knows what else. Several of the babies were delivered directly into toilets. Seriously. Can you imagine? "Excuse me, I need to use the bathroom. I'll be right back. Oh My God! How did THAT get there?" I found the woman who was pregnant with twins to be the most baffling. She claims that she was probably around 130 pounds at the time (and she is 6'0"), which I find highly unlikely because she is quite the sturdy looking fellow, er, lady, these days. Also, how do you not notice you are lugging around two humans at once? Oh, the thought that these people wander the earth without some sort of guardians or helmets.

I would say the first, but let's face it when you reach this level, it's clearly the bottom of the barrel.

It's Friday night/Saturday morning and I am enjoying a Tivo marathon. That's not bad enough, people...do you wonder what has brought on this tivo watching? Well, I've upgraded from the old tivo and I need to clear it out before I hook up the new one.

I'm going from a regular tivo that records only one program at once to a dual tuner. I can now record two programs at once! I am amazed by technology. I have no idea how it works, but I love it! This really fits into my First Waver Theory. No Cable, No air conditioning, no beer = Katie a shell of her former self.

That Oprah

There seems to be some sort of Oprah backlash these days. I guess it is just one more thing for conservatives (sorry to generalize) to pick on and use as an example of how the evil liberals are taking over the world. What.Ever. I really don't have too much beef with someone who donates millions to charity every year, gets people to read books, and general attempts to put a positive message out there. I guess some people think she has too much influence. Well, I consider myself a person that thinks for myself and I am not going to do something just because Oprah told me to. Anyhoo, this post has diverted from my original intent...

I was watching the show today and she followed up about a show she did about puppy mills. I swear nothing is more sad than poor little dogs who have been mistreated. It makes me so mad when people abuse animals. They are so trusting and have no idea what is going on and I can only imagine the confusion and betrayal (even if people don't think they can feel betrayal). I guess the point of this post is just that half the time I watch the show I end up crying. I'm such a sap.

But in the past few weeks, this is what I have added to the roster:

Tori and Dean: Inn Love
Sons of Hollywood- These two shows give me my Spelling fix. I love reality shows...that's not new, but these two give you a unique experience of watching a story from two different sides at practically the same time (you know, the whole Tori out of the will, Randy on his mom's side - drama ensues thing...).

Intervention-This one isn't new. I have enjoyed watching all about these people struggling with addiction and their crazy families and the f-up things they do.

- I have discussed a couple of these before...I think. I love HIMYM because these people are pretty close to my age and Barney is HI-larious...'High Five'
- The Class is one of those shows that SUCKED when it first came on, but after dedication it turned out to be one pretty good program. The storylines came together, some of the characters are hot...John Ritter's son is pretty cute, and the cliffhanger endings to each episode keep me coming back.

Day off

I love my job. I got vacation hours for my birthday (I know, isn't that cool!) and decided to take the day off today. I have slept an awful lot and caught up on my weekend episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210. I am making hashbrown casserole settling in for more television watching. I have an event I planned for the library tomorrow night and I am VERY worried about how it will turn out. I am sure I will let everyone know what happens, so keep me in your thoughts.

I'm not dumb so quit treating me like I am.

I am watching the first three episodes of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and I am struck by the thought that these people think all t.v. watchers are stupid. I will let you know that I am a Nielson rating's dream. I watch t.v., I am more than passably intelligent, and I keep up with current events. I hate watching a show that talks about "red states" and "blue states" and "Christians" and "others." Blah, blah, blah. Here's how it is: I live in a red state, I probably swing more like the blue states. I am a Christian, but I don't talk about it incessantly because I believe that spirituality is a highly personal thing. Also, if I hear one more southern joke I will delete this show permanently from my Tivo Season Pass. You want to be cutting edge? Fine, then don't assume things about people you don't know and a place you have never lived.

So much t.v, so little time

Every September I am pulled in many different directions. Why? It's the start of a new t.v. season and there are numerous shows that require my perusal and discerning taste to choose which shows to add to my tivo schedule. I have several shows that are conflicting with one another and I need to decide soon what I want to watch now and what I will watch during the summer. Do you realize the kind of planning it takes to establish a satisfactory viewing week? I know that many of you think that I watch too much television, but I really only stick with the stuff that ends up on the tivo (and some of that I don't even get to). Since purchasing my tivo, I find that my "mindless" t.v. watching has declined exponentially. That's right. I'm an efficient television watcher. Professional, even. I should market my skillz, bitches.
